It’s cheap and there’s never more than one line per shot. And there’s a whole lot of just plain “Sonja” before we get to “Red Sonja” and even then, it’s just a tease. But I’ll tell you what: I was never bored with this film.
Sheehan appears to be aiming for Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood but his performance reminded me more of Frank Langella in Cutthroat Island, which I mean as a sort of backhanded compliment - an actor having a whole lot of fun playing a scumbag. And Matilda Lutz wouldn’t have been my first choice for Sonja, but she pulls it off impressively.
I’m looking forward to the next one.
