The Naked Gun
I’m a fan of stupid comedies but this just didn’t work for me. The paucity of ideas was noticeable - love a sub-90 film but even the 85 minutes here were a stretch. Personally, I felt like Neeson never fully settled into the role and so he spent the entire film mugging for the camera. You could tell a joke was coming because he’d shift into a different register, so the entire film was like being in a car with a herky-jerky learner driver who can’t quite get into gear. The film didn’t make me laugh much, but when I did, it was almost always jokes from people other than Neeson.
Also, it wouldn’t be fair to not mention how great Pamela Anderson was. She seemed really game and threw herself into the silliness of the role and was one of the few bright spots in the film for me.
